Diplomas and recognition

Born in Swansea, Laurette began playing the harp at the age of eight. Aged seventeen, as a pupil of Susan Drake, she was awarded Honours in the Associate of the Royal College of Music Performer’s Diploma, and two years later was awarded the Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music Performer’s Diploma. Brought up in the Welsh Eisteddfod tradition, she has won the harp classes of both the Urdd (Youth) and the National Eisteddfoddau.

Laurette graduated with a BA Hons in music from Christ’s College, Cambridge in 2001. A range of scholarships and awards allowed her to further her harp studies at the Royal Academy of Music under Skaila Kanga. She was awarded a Distinction in her post-graduate Diploma in June 2003, together with the DipRAM prize for an outstanding final recital.

Harp recitals

Laurette has regularly given recitals across the UK, both as a solo harpist and in chamber ensembles with duo partners Anna Wolstenholme (flute) and Lowri Porter (violin). She has performed at the Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwick, Malvern, and Gower festivals, and also for the closing concert of the Saint-Saëns festival at the Wigmore Hall. She was a Countess of Munster recital scheme artist between 2003 and 2005, and has also given many concerts and workshops for Live Music Now.

Orchestral harpist

Previously principal harp of the National Youth Orchestra and the European Union Youth Orchestra, Laurette has performed as a freelance orchestral player, appearing with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Northern Ballet and Welsh National Opera among others.
